In a super connected world, we have all let our devices become extra appendages. Being able to disconnect can actually help you be more connected.
Here are a few things you can do to refresh:
1. Consciously Eat
You would be amazed at how much the quality (or in some cases for the workaholic multi-taskers among us: lack thereof) of the food you’re eating changes when you’re paying attention to it. That bold Colombian brew will taste bolder and Colombian-er without a phone it your hand. Trust.
2. Walk the Dog
Pay attention to your pup! Walking while looking at a phone can end up being very dangerous (and often requires a seeing-eye significant other). Observing your surroundings and having fun with your dog can help build a deeper relationship with your furry friend. ( That said, be sure to keep your phone handy for important instagram moments )
3. No-Cell Sunday
We like to turn our phones off on Sundays and relax. Giving up the phone for a day reconnects and recenters you. It also refreshes your brain to gather more data on Mondays. Go shopping, hiking, to lunch–or just dance party while scrubbing the baseboards (this is a necessary evil that better adults have reminded us is actually a thing). If you can’t handle a full day at first due to ghost phone limb, that’s okay. Even a few hours can be a game-changer.
4. Before bed
As important as scrolling aimlessly through the same posts you looked at three hours ago may seem, the blue light from your cell phone can actually disrupt your sleeping patterns and your quality of sleep. That email can wait. Your beauty rest is more important.
